How do I install GlobalProtect VPN?

Windows

If your Windows computer is connected to the campus domain, you should already have the software installed and configured. All you need to do is log in using your Directory ID and Password. If your computer is not connected to the campus domain, you can download and configure the software by doing the following:

Installation

Visit the UMD GlobalProtect Portal
Click on Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent
Install the downloaded installer package
Launch the software if it doesn't do so automatically
Use access.umd.edu as the server
Login using the supplied CAS page

Connect Before Login

We have configured the install for those connected to the campus domain so that GlobalProtect can act as a Pre-Login Access Provider (PLAP) credential provider to provide access to UMD before logging in to Windows. This has several benefits, including the ability to map shared network drives immediately upon login and the ability to use a recently changed password for login.

On the Windows login screen, click/tap on the network sign-in button on the lower right corner of the screen
Login using the supplied CAS page
Log in to Windows using your usual method

macOS

Installation

Visit the UMD GlobalProtect Portal
Click on Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent
Install the downloaded installer package
Launch the software if it doesn't do so automatically
Use access.umd.edu as the server
Login using the supplied CAS page
